VDTA/Bernie Epstein Scholarship Criteria

Please review the following criteria before proceeding to the application:

1	Recipient must become enrolled as a fulltime undergraduate student at an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12-credit hours per semester.
2	Applicant/Recipient must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 scale) in high school and maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in college.
3	Applicant/Recipient must be a dependent of a VDTA Dealer Member or a dependent of a VDTA Dealer Member’s employee
4	Applicant must submit a fully completed and signed application, to include:

	a	Applicant’s name, local address, permanent address, phone number, social security number, gender, date of birth and place of birth.
	b	Certified school transcripts (high school and/or college).
	c	Referral of VDTA Dealer Member (including dealer member’s name, company, address and phone number).
	d	Reference from VDTA Dealer Member (100 words or less) stating why this individual should be considered for the VDTA/Bernie Epstein Scholarship.
	e	Recommendation of a school teacher and a school counselor familiar with the applicant (including teacher’s and counselor’s name, address and phone number).
	f	Completed essay (100 words minimum) which must state educational objectives and how those objectives will relate to planned future career.
	g	A listing of extra-curricular activities applicant has participated in which demonstrates:

		•	A love of sports, and/or
		•	Humanitarianism, and/or
		•	Leadership ability
		•	Community involvement

Letters of reference from a minimum of three individuals attesting to the applicant’s demonstration of the above attributes (see section 4.g.)

5	It is expected that the recipient of the VDTA/Bernie Epstein Scholarship will accept the award in person at the VDTA annual convention and trade show. VDTA will provide recipient’s travel, lodging and meal expenses.
6	The scholarship recipient must submit to the Scholarship Committee a certified grade report at the end of each college semester. This will help in determining the recipient’s eligibility to renew the scholarship each year (for a maximum of four years).
7	Consideration for the VDTA/Bernie Epstein Scholarship is not based on financial need.
NOTE: Scholarship money is paid only as long as the recipient is an undergraduate student. Money is awarded in $2500 increments per school year with a maximum paid of $10,000. Not every student will receive $10,000. Total scholarship dollars are determined by the student's year in school at the time of the award.
