Mort Murphy, owner of Murphy Sewing Machine Company in Owensboro, Kentucky, has devoted a lifetime to the sewing industry. At age 6, Mort was helping his father repair machines in the family-owned business. At age 16, he entered the business full-time. For more than 45 years, Mort has served the sewing industry in a number of ways.
As a sewing machine dealer, Mort looks after his customers’ needs, first and foremost. His years of experience allow him to give customers the highest caliber of service, expert advice, and quality repairs. Mort displays the best of principles and highest ethics in all his business practices.
Mort has also made great contributions to the sewing machine industry and independent sewing machine dealers. He gave over 25 years of valuable service to the International Sewing Machine Dealers Association. Beginning in 1967, Mort chaired many committees and served a number of terms as the association’s treasurer. In 1970 and again in 1977, Mort served as the association’s president. His leadership has benefitted the entire industry.
In addition to his many achievements in the sewing industry, Mort contributes to the good of his local community. He gives freely of his time and energy to community projects and serves as pastor at his church.
