Donald & Audrey LaValleyDonald and Audrey LaValley started Bittersweet Fabrics in 1968. At the time, Audrey was a telephone operator for New England Telephone, and Don was head training officer for the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. From humble beginnings, starting in their home, they have grown the business over the past 42 years to be one of the top Janome dealers in the U.S.

Don and Audrey have both worked tirelessly to promote sewing and quilting with a positive image that is widely recognized throughout the Northeast US, among their fellow dealers and consumers alike as being unrivaled in customer service, education and support that has grown and promoted sewing to generations of sewists.

Their accomplishments include lecturing at the first Janome Institute, being selected as one of three dealers for Janome’s VDTA Dealer Advertisements in 2008, participating in the national introduction of the Memory Craft 11000 in 2005, sponsoring the Vermont Quilt Festival’s Lt. Governor’s Award for the First Time Youth Sewers, and being a top 25 Janome dealer from 2005 to 2010.

Audrey was born July 25, 1928, in Hanover, NH. Don was born April 4, 1928, in Concord, NH. They were married on October 2, 1946, and recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. They have eight children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The LaValleys have exemplified the ideals of our industry to promote sewing in a positive manner with dedication and zeal. They have impacted the lives of so many others in a manner that truly makes the industry better for us all.
