Bengt GerborgBengt Gerborg held the position of president and CEO of VSM Sewing Inc., the North American sales company for Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff, and White sewing machines for nearly 20 years. A native of Sweden, Bengt came to the United States in 1985 to head up what was then Viking Husqvarna Sewing Machine Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Under his guidance, the company has grown from sales of $16 million in 1995 to $169.1 million in 2004. For his achievements, Bengt and the company have received admirable recognition. In 2004, he was a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. He was a 2003 recipient of the Smart Business Network Pillar Award for Community Service. Bengt received the prestigious Mercurius Award for Salesmen of the Year in 2002, awarded by the leading Swedish business newspaper Dagens Industri. Plus in 1995, he had the distinct pleasure of being awarded by Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Sweden, the Swedish Trade Council’s annual Achievement Award for Marketing Excellence.

Bengt began his career with Husqvarna AB in Huskvarna, Sweden, as manager of production planning and materials management and held several positions of increasing responsibility, including director of marketing for sewing machines worldwide and executive vice president.

Prior to Bengt’s career with Husqvarna, he was a management consultant for Mysigma in Gothenburg, Sweden, and a project engineer at SAAB Aircraft Division, also located in Gothenburg.

Bengt holds a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He was a member of the Senior Management for VSM Group AB and served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Home Sewing Association, a not-for-profit trade organization for the sewing industry.

Under Bengt’s leadership, VSM Sewing Inc. experienced tremendous growth. He worked relentlessly to maintain the company’s mission to keep the world sewing.
