Marilyn & Ron Gattinella
Ron and Marilyn Gattinella met and married while high school teachers in the Hartford, CT, public schools. Ron taught social studies and Marilyn taught math. In 1982, when their youngest child began school, they started a small business, The Glastonbury Quilt Shoppe. After a year, they moved to a larger location, began selling sewing machines, changed the name to Close to Home Sewing Center, and 30 years later, carry multiple brands.
Sons Marc and Paul each run their own stores under the Close to Home banner in Southington and Orange, CT, while daughter Denise closed her store and relocated to Salt Lake City when she married Eric Lopez. Close to Home has been recognized by several brands for outstanding sales and service. The Gattinellas are admired by dealers across the country, as well as sewing machine manufacturers for their input and advice.
At work, Ron and Marilyn both greet and assist customers throughout the day. Marilyn specializes in the machines and accessories; Ron handles marketing and planning special events. When not working, Marilyn is active in a Business Networking group, serves on a management and leadership advisory board for a local college and makes time for sewing, reading and exercising.
Ron has taught at conventions, served on an advisory board for a sewing machine company, and co-founded, co-owned and was a director for a small network of banks. They enjoy family time, especially with their 12 grandchildren.
