1941 -

Dale Carpenter photoDale Carpenter began his career in the sewing machine and vacuum industry as a part-time salesman for the Singer Sewing Machine Company in 1961, while attending Kansas University. He then became a full time salesman and eventually a manager for Singer Company. As manager, Dale was quite successful, winning several awards for being a top salesperson in the district. His motto was, and continues to be, Demonstrate…Demonstrate…Demonstrate!

Dale opened his first sewing machine and vacuum dealership in 1968 in Huntsville, TX. Over the years he has operated several successful stores. At one time, Dale had dealerships in four Texas cities. Currently he has two sewing machine and vacuum dealerships, Sew Vac City & Sew Vac City/Direct, one of which has been in business for 26 years. Both locations carry Janome, Brother, Viking, Pfaff and Singer sewing machines, quilt frames, cabinets and a large selection of vacuums. Dale has been a member of the VDTA for 25 years. His dealership has received the Janome Top Ten Award for the last 13 years, the Brother Top 20 Platinum Dealer/Royal Performance Club in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, and the White Top Ten Dealer Award in 1993, 1994, 1995, and was the Singer Dealer of the Year in 1992 and 1993.

Sew Vac works with many schools, the 4-H, and offers summer sewing programs in order to develop a love of sewing in young people. The local Janome Club, Embroidery Club, Janome 12000 Club and Project Linus are a few of the groups that hold their meetings at Sew Vac. Dale has promoted Quilts of Valor, Project Linus, and The Million Pillowcase Challenge. In 2012 he participated in the development of a sewing program for S.O.S. (Save Our Streets) Ministries, an organization that works to keep young people off of the streets and out of gangs. Still Creek Ranch, a home for children in need that also equips them for the future, has a special place in Dale's heart. He is always willing to contribute to any of their needs that he can meet.

Dale has not only had a positive influence on those in his community, but also his employees. He and his wife, Linda, make sure they are well provided for, treat them with respect and truly care about them as individuals, not just employees. Most of their employees have been with the company over 10 years and four have been with them for 26 years. Dale's greatest influence has been on his family. Both of his children, his son-in-law, and grandson are involved in the business and are committed to maintaining its success. Well known in the Brazos Valley for its customer service and competitive pricing, Sew Vac has earned the Best of the Brazos award many years in a row. Customers know when they visit one of the Sew Vac locations that the sales people and repairman are genuinely interested in them and what best fits their needs.

Dale has spent many years in the sewing machine and vacuum industry and has consistently grown his business and given back to his community. Sew Vac is one of the largest dealers in the United States at this time. Dale has achieved this by providing excellent customer service, a knowledgeable staff and competitive prices. His family is very involved in the business and will carry on his high standards. Dale wants his employees to be successful and his key to this is proper training. Throughout his career he has taught his employees that sewing machines are not bought, they are sold. The salesperson must determine the customers dominate desire and then they must demonstrate…demonstrate…demonstrate!
