Nate Berman, past president of Green Vacuum Cleaner Co., Inc., was a man who believed in giving personalized service to his customers.
He was born in Cleveland and at an early age established himself as a businessman and entrepreneur. After serving in the Philippines for four years as a staff sergeant in the Quartermaster Corps, he joined his wife Sabina at Green Vacuum Cleaner Co., Inc., as sales manager, going on the road to meet his customers and continuing to build up the distributing business. In 1955 he and Sabina bought the business from Sam Green.
In his spare time, he played baseball, bowled and golfed. Many of his colleagues who came to Cleveland looked forward to a round of golf as his guest at the Hawthorne Valley Country Club. He also served as president of the Alliwise Association, a philanthropic organization that helped send children to summer camp.
Green Vacuum grew into a nationally known wholesale distributor of vacuum cleaner parts and accessories. Nate also established a service and repair department that is known throughout the city. Nate Berman credited the growth of the company to their ability to understand the needs of customers and to supplying excellent personal service. Since his death, Green Vacuum has continued to uphold these traditions.
